Cold Gusty, Thermal Strong
Great launch at 2:43 PM into immediate lift to 600 feet over, soon 800 to 900 feet over launch. Good ride over billboard to 1,000 over, crossed canyon between billboard and Pine five times, got to 1,200 over once, total climb of approximately 1,700 feet in one thermal. Went to Lower Marshall from Pine. Two weak wings. Beak landing due to tentative flare and trying to hit target circle (did) at 4:23 PM. (Most fun flight ever.)

Fog Below Smooth, Light
Good launch at 5:35 PM. A few turns, then flew to Lower Marshall. Scratched at Lower Marshall for 15 minutes. No wind at LZ. Ran to avoid beaking. Okay landing at 6:13 PM.

Thermals, No Ridge Lift
Good launch at 3:53 PM, up and down in thermal cycles. Sank, went to billboard (below), eventual 700-foot gain. Sank low heading for Lower Marshall, checking out the small pops. Very low over reservoir. Okay landing at 4:33 PM within 75 feet of target.

Cool, no ridge lift Gusty, with thermals
Good launch at 4:20 PM, long thermal cycles with sink between. Got to 600 feet above launch over Caltrans, then thrown around. Went to billboard after 35 minutes. Small thermal took me to the top once. Went for Lower Marshall, small thermal over Chapel, scratched a little. Excellent landing at 5:20 PM, tire at left wing tip, within 20 feet. Used "line-of-sight/stationary point" glide path judging technique from Dennis Pagen book.

Clear Thermals, Ridge Lift, Invisible
Okay launch at 4:40 PM. Let nose up slightly, going prone. Not much left over launch, scratched for lift. Went to billboard, 400 feet below ridge. Worked thermal hard for 15 minutes. Gained 600 feet to clear ridge. Went back toward launch. Saw low glider. Turned back. Worked for a while. Went to Lower Marshall and scratched alone down low. Good landing at 5:33 PM. Slight stall on final, 50 feet AGL. Dropped in on feet from 10 feet up.

None Smooth with thermals
Good launch at 5:52 PM with immediate lift to 200 feet over launch. Crowded skies. Worked Billboard to 500 feet over, wary of other gliders coming from below in thermals. Reached cloud peak with air to spare (200 over?). Worked failing lift for a few minutes. Very lumpy air over LZ. Windsock shifted from south to northeast to east during approach. Swooped in hard and fast heading west and flared for excellent no-step landing at 6:50 PM. Made a turning final so I could aim into the wind as it was shifting.

Cumulus off desert Light, some thermals
Good launch at 6:09 PM. Very little lift, scratched until 350 AGL at Lower Marshall. Tiny S-turns (not 180's) on approach. Excellent landing, 25 to 35 feet from the target at 6:20 PM. Lift had shut down because the sun was behind a cloud bank.

Smoggy Abundant thermals
Good launch at 5:22 PM. Worked Billboard for 1.5 hours, climbing to 4,100 feet [sic] at times. Strong thermals, went to Pine Mountain and worked small thermals for another 1.5 hours. Scratched a little at Lower Marshall. Poor landing at 6:32 PM—came in too high, overshot the target, cleared too late, and nearly beaked. Good flying, though shaky in the thermals at first.

Smog with cumulus Gusty and light
Good launch at 4:05 PM. Stayed on ridge for 2–5 minutes, then flew smoothly to Lower Marshall. Found a small thermal there with strong sink. Worked a thermal over the LZ and another on final approach but overshot the target by 100 yards. GOOD no-step landing in brush at 4:21 PM.

Smog Gusty, cycles
Good launch at 4:20 PM into bumpy air. Left after 15 minutes due to sinking in a down cycle. Found some thermals on the way to Lower Marshall, with lift ranging from 150 to 250 FPM, reaching 200 feet above the top. Flew across to below Upper Marshall but found nothing. Scratched for a while. Pretty good landing at 5:05 PM—popped up at flare (3+ feet), kicked legs back, and held, landing gently on feet.

Smog Cycling
Good launch at 5:55 PM with immediate lift to 100 feet above. Climbed to 300 feet above in thermals. Up and down several times in cycling lift, with several strong thermals at Billboard. Spent 45 minutes on ridge, then flew over LZ with 1,100 feet of altitude. Thermals present on the LZ. Excellent landing at 7:05 PM. Came in fast, used crescendo flare, and landed 20 to 25 feet past the tire. More used to instruments. Still need to FEEL what's going on.

Smog Gusty cycles
Three practice launches and landings. - First: Poor launch, two-step landing, shaky. - Second: Better launch, three-step landing. - Third: Excellent launch, stable flight, nice landing. Practice from 2:45 PM to 4:00 PM, wind crossing most of the time.
None.

Smog Glassy
Long time standing on launch, trying to get stable. Good launch at 6:13 PM with immediate lift to 150 ft above launch. Wind died after 15 minutes. Went to Billboard and found a small, strong thermal but was below ridge. Tried to work it, but lost too much altitude in turns. Went to Lower Marshall—nothing there. Decided to go for Pinecrest instead of the alternate site. Sank like a rock on "approach," made only two turns. Landed at edge of LZ, running at 6:55 PM. Did not set glider down. Vario + altimeter very helpful. Must zero @ LZ & check Verts.
