Ugly launch at 2:20 PM, nose pop, long run. Turbulent at ridge. Went to Cloud Peak, scratched for a half hour. Felt like shear south of canyon mouth. Pilot at LZ, K-A-N-R-A-Y, radioed winds strong down. Soared a while longer, hovered in from 1200 AGL to parking area of temporary LZ. Excellent landing at 3:15 PM. Radio turning out to be a great asset. Learning from other pilots' comments (about conditions). |

Good launch at 12:55 PM. Sent to Lower Marshall, thermal ride from 3,500 to 10K, then on up to 14K, cold. Cruised east to East Highlands, greater than 10K the whole time. Ran into strong headwind, slightly hypoxic, lost 4K to 8K before turning back west to Strawberry Peak and high school. Went to Glen Helen, then Cucamonga Peak, then to Little Mountain, then Pine, UM, then LZ. Good landing, 30 feet from tire at 4:45 PM, total distance at least 50 miles. And I reached 100 hours since January 1st. |

Jim Skelton showed up, and we alternated between ridgetop and 10,000 feet. I got to 11,000. Couldn't get anywhere in any direction. Headwinds. Back to Crestline, then Lake Gregory, then Campus Crusade. Wanted to ride smog front. Couldn't. Jim Topp landed on UM, so I did too. Whack at 4:55 PM. Good for first time. |

Couldn't bring glider all the way around into the wind. Landed running cross downwind, dropped glider after 30 yards, wiped out right down tube. Stupid to get that low just to drop a bomb. Landed at 4:55. Replace right down tube. |

Excellent launch at 12:15 PM, almost too late in the day, waiting for it to "get good." Southwest winds above 10,000 feet, non-monsoonal flow. Goal was Sedona, 25 miles. Immediate gain to 10,000 feet, then up to 12,140 MSL, which was cloudbase. Eventually, Rotor Dave got up and we headed out. Mass sink over Cottonwood, back to Mingus foothills and airport, up and down for hours. Dove to 1,000 AGL, hooked one, and went to 10,200. Headed for Sedona, sank over town. Cold and Cloudy Frontal Flow
Excellent launch at 3 p.m. Glider flying before launch. Strong winds, tough to penetrate. Light Dream definitely different than GTR. Didn't climb nearly as well. Flew close to clouds, almost flew into big one from the side. Stuffed bar to knees, still only dropped at 100 to 200 feet per minute. Good landing at temporary LZ at 5 p.m., especially for gusty conditions, 15+. Temporary LZ opened 5-1-91, area felt much better than old LZ, more wide open. |

Frontal, Thermals, Inversion at 6,000
Good launch at 2:15 p.m. Very bumpy in ridge lift. Left for Lower Marshall after 8 minutes. Excellent thermals at Lower Marshall. Climbed to 5,000 several times. Then hooked into 500 plus up over Lower Marshall. Thermals got faster as I rose. Looked up and saw cloud forming at the top of my thermal. Flew to the base of the cloud at 6,000 feet and headed for Crestline. Made it at 5,100 feet. Quickly climbed over the top. First time Marshall to Crestline. Limited to 700 over ridge by inversion. Went from billboard for Pine Flat. Was traveling one-third of the way there. As I came around to face west, two F-15 Eagle fighters came at me and turned to northeast over Pine Flats within one mile of my position. Got ready for turbulence. Encountered none. Flew to Pine, back to Crestline, then to Marshall. Many 2,000 foot gains. Headed for LZ, 2,000 foot AGL, lift everywhere, three excellent wing overs, one poor, spiraled down, very, very good landing at 5:15 p.m. Experimented with VG a lot, learned a lot, exceptional conditions. Must have glider. Regarding the jets, I think they were avoiding me. If I hadn't been turning, they might not have seen me. Awesome sight. |

Good launch at 4:30 p.m. Got up at first then sank some. Scratched forever, 40 minutes at 1,500 to 1,900 AGL. Finally went to west end of Lower Marshall. Found good thermal. Went from 1.2k to 2.7k. Cruised a while longer then landed 25 yards short of LZ, but landed beautifully at 6 p.m. DS and RMcK retrieved a glider from below billboard using parasails [sic paragliders]. |

Good launch at 2:20 PM, leg strap hooked, hindered run slightly. Worked five minutes above Caltrans, couldn't get up, previous pilot's way up. Flew to Lower Marshall and 100 FPM down. Good air at Cloud Peak with beaucoup lift, found good thermals and drifted way back, especially over Upper Marshall, almost to Highway 18. Got to 4,900 feet, set up to land way back and aimed for tire, glide slope. Overshot by 30 feet, tire went between feet, dragging on ground. Well-timed flare at 3:08 PM. Excellent day! |

Steady Wind, Ridge Lift with Inversion
Good launch at 3:00 PM, trying out GTR with VG, very different. Strong thermals, but inversion wouldn't let me above 600 AGL ridge. Over-controlled a lot, but settled in after a while. Flying to Lower Marshall with VG full on was interesting. Good glide, very steady and firm line. Scratched well, overshot LZ a little, and executed the push-pull-push to flare 6 feet AGL, dropped straight down to the feet hard at 4:34 PM. |

Launch at 1:40 PM. Dropped boot of harness after the first step, ran with one foot in boot. Launched smoothly otherwise, but it was close. Sled ride down. Spectators at front edge of LZ. Altimeter reading 200 feet low (read 200 AGL, actual 400), consequently overshot target by 70 yards. Was able to drop in very fast, 500 feet a minute due to new harness "hang angle." Landed very well at 2:00 PM. |

Good launch at 1:50 PM. Scratched low on ridge for two minutes, then got a good thermal 200 to 300 feet above Caltrans and climbed to 7,000 feet in eight minutes. Eventually went to Pine Flats and back. Should have stayed over billboard. Sank over Caltrans. Went to Lower Marshall low and scratched for 15 minutes. Okay landing at 3:00 PM. (No windsock. Wind in LZ stronger than I thought. Landed 15 yards short of tire, one half step.) |
